Christian Education

At Faith United Methodist Church, we believe Christian Education is a vital part of our church life. Through Sunday School we discover how Biblical principles apply to everyday living. Our Sunday School classes provide an environment that encourages fellowship and Christian nurturing.

Our mission is to develop a Christian Education program that meets the need of each individual by offering a wide-range of educational opportunities.

Adult Classes

New Beginnings

The New Beginnings Class is made up of adults of all ages. The class works to create a warm, friendly, Christian environment. The wide variety of topics discussed by the class focus on God's blessings for us all and the challenges Christians face in today's society. They meet every Sunday between Worship Services in the Church Library. The class members would like to take this opportunity to invite anyone that does not currently attend a Sunday School class to stop by for a visit. The class leader is D.G. Sherrill.

One Accord

The One Accord Sunday School class begain in January 2008. It consists of a good mix of 20s+ in a small group setting. The wide range of ages allows for a variety of perspectives on our lessons and life events while at the same time helping us to become of "one accord" as we seek to honor the mission of FUMC in "Developing Devoted Disciplines of Jesus Christ".

We began with a "BibleSense"TM study on the book of Philippians and will follow that with a study of the book of Ephesains in March and April. The "BibleSense"TM curriculum provides intriguing historical notes which connect interesting facts to Scripture. In addition, thought-provoking discussion results from the open-ended questions and we are inspired each week to live out what we learn by selecting a weekly challenge.

The One Accord class will participate in a variety of community projects - yet to be determined by the class. We also plan on having social functions during the year such as movie and game nights, bowling...

The One Accord class invites you to join us as we have fun growing closer to one another and to the Lord Jesus Christ!

Joy

The Joy Sunday School class began as a 40+ class. However, the class has evolved into a class for all ages. The wide range of ages allows for a variety of perspectives when discussing our Sunday School lessons.

During the holiday season, our class studied an advent series entitled, "The Miracle of Christmas" by James W. Moore. With the beginning of the new year, our class will select a new series.

The Joy class participates in a variety of community projects throughout the year; Salvation Army lunches, the Angel tree, shoes for the Boys and Girls Club, painting projects in the church, boxes for our soldiers in Iraq, and GBGM advance groups.

Our class also plans social functions during the year such as Christmas parties, an Opryland Hotel trip, movie nights, bowling, and dining at local restaurants.

The Joy class has an open door atmosphere and invites anone who is looking for a small group setting to join us for Sunday School.

Pathfinders

This class is directed to persons sixty years of age and older; although anyone is welcome regardless of age or relationship. The class is diverse; some are singles, some are couples, and some are widows/widowers, etc. We seek to honor the mission of Faith United Methodist Church: "Developing Devoted Disciplines of Jesus Christ"; via studying, learning, and applying the scriptures of the Bible into our daily lives. We promote open class discussion to improve our understanding and clarification of the intent of scripture and to personalize how we have applied these principles in our individual situations thereby making Christian living real and enjoyable in all our lives. Needless to say, we strive to have fun in our class. We also, as a class, support several other initiatives of Faith United Methodist Church. One special highlight each year is our class Christmas dinner, but all the class activities that we undertake are lots of fun. We care about each other and our church family.

We are currently studying the book of Luke, by the most prolific writer of the New Testament! Please come join us for fun and Christian growth!

Crusaders

The Crusaders class is a combination of the Kerr Memorial Crusaders class and the Builders class of West Side United Methodist Church. After uniting, others have been encouraged and welcome to join. Our desire is to minister to the people of Faith UMC, especially our age group, and our community. Teachers for this class come from within this group. We support all of the programs, beliefs and objectives of the United Methodist Church.

Some of the causes that we support are:

  • providing lunches to Salvation Army 3 times a year
  • providing tissues to local funeral homes with our church label
  • donated quilts to Versailles Home and Camp Courageous
  • contribute to Hotel, Inc, Christianos Corozones and local missions
  • send birthday cards to senior members of our congregation
  • give financial gifts to pastor and secretary
  • give gifts to Sunday School hospital patients
  • give fruit baskets to each teacher at Christmas
